Excellence Award Program Description
Excellence Award Program is offered to the best high-school students attending French classes in the eight counties of Western New York. The three best students are selected based on the results of an written and oral exam and receive their monetary prize in a University at Buffalo graduation ceremony.

In order to participate in the exam, a student needs to be selected by a French teacher in his or her high-school as the representative of the school. Each school can be represented by only one student. The written part and an oral interview of the exam are offered on the campus of the University at Buffalo on a Saturday.

If you teach French in a High School and have not received our invitation to submit the name of a student to participate in the exam, please inquire with your principal, or fill out the Excellence Award Submission Form.

The winners are notified with a phone call and an official letter from the AFB; they are invited to the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures graduation ceremony where the Melodia Jones Fund Chair and a representative of the Alliance Française de Buffalo present them with their awards. The other candidates will receive a certificate of participation in the mail.

The jury grading the exam is composed of three people: a University at Buffalo Graduate Student in French, a French teacher from a local high school, and a teacher from the Alliance Française de Buffalo.
